Let’s talk about pet dental health!
February is the official month dedicated to Pet Dental Health, but it’s super significant all year round! Maintaining good dental health is a huge part of your pet’s well-being, and neglecting it can be a painful situation for them. It’s best to be proactive in your approach to dental care to reduce the chance of significant issues down the road.
Why is it important?
Dental disease is the number one illness affecting pets. Just by the age of three, 80% of dogs and 70% of cats have some form of dental disease. This can affect their kidneys, lungs, and even their heart. Remember to check your pet’s teeth regularly and watch out for any excessive drooling, swollen gums, bad breath, or tooth loss. You might be thinking- doesn’t everyone’s pet have stinky breath? One in three pet owners believes that a bad odor from a pet’s mouth is normal. This isn’t the case, as it signals poor dental condition! Staying on top of your pet’s dental care will help keep their smile sparkling and their breath fresh.
How can keep you up with it?
It’s never too early to start taking care of your pet’s teeth and gums! To help remove plaque and tartar buildup, add tooth brushing with a pet-safe toothpaste to your pet’s weekly, or even daily, routine. If you’re a new puppy owner, introducing them to having their teeth brushed early on will provide a much easier adjustment to the process. At Meyer’s, you can find helpful dental chews and treats that come in your pet’s favorite flavors. These are a fun and yummy way to clean their teeth while satisfying their chewing instinct. We also offer tooth-brushing as an add-on grooming service for that extra clean.
Don’t forget!
A happy mouth means a happy pet! While it can be easy to overlook, Dental Health should be a year-round focus for pet owners. Checking your pet’s mouth weekly and adding tooth brushing or other dental products to their care will help you maintain their pearly whites. Here at Meyer’s, we’re happy to help!
